Day 19

In Ramadan Logs on September 9, 2009 by Suhaila

Sleep last night:
6.5 hours total (5 hours at night, 1.5 hours during the day)

Workout:
Press 3-3-3-3-3
[27-32-37-42-47F (failed on second rep)-43-44. Did an extra set. Next time I’ll aim to go higher. I think I could have done 45…]

1/2 tabata mashup of push-ups and squats (i.e. 8 rounds of: 20 seconds of push-ups, 10 seconds of rest, 20 seconds of squats, 10 seconds of rest)
[46 push-ups, 90 squats (136 total). No more knee push-ups! I did “full” push-ups (i.e. on my toes) with a 35 lb plate under my chest, and went chest-to-plate instead of chest-to-floor.]

Suhoor:

  • 3 egg plain omelette
  • 1 tsp fish oil + multivitamin

Iftar:

  • 3 dates
  • A chicken taco without the tortilla
  • 5 cups whole milk
  • Yogurt with strawberries and blueberries
  • Some spaghetti squash seeds
  • 1 tsp fish oil + multivitamin

I need to cut down on this yogurt and berries consumption. Spaghetti squash seeds are pretty good. 🙂

  1. ive been lazy about posting

CONGRATS on the full push ups, now you will be doing a ton

breakfast, beef short ribs with over easy egg, cooked in butter and coconut oil
I ate some macademia nuts to make sure enough fat was consumed

    WOD
    Four rounds for time of:
100 ft Walking lunge, carrying 20 pound dumbbells
24 inch Box Jump, 30 reps
    20 pound Weighted pull-ups, 20 reps

33:00 but did 3 rounds only.

I didn’t go for the 4th round as I was starting to move slow and get more dehydrated, plus it was close to 8pm which was time for iftar.
box jumps were slow because of the lunges and I didnt want to have an accident and lose focus due to fatigue and no water

    iftar
    3 dates
baked chicken quarter w/gravy (thought I was being good with no mashed potatoes but forgot that gravy has corn starch.) and some COKE zero
    macademia nuts
    some grilled zucchini and asparagus
    2 glasses of whole milk
fish oil with yogurt, strawberries and some pineapple –I thought about salad dressing but we haven’t had salad and I am lazyyyyy but that is definitely something I want to try with the fish oil (lemony flavor will be good)

InshAllah I am going to the store today and want to get those coconut flakes DROOL for pancakes

  2. Haha, I think the Coke Zero’s a bit worse than the corn starch in the gravy 😛 Mmm coconut flakes. I bought a coconut earlier this week. I haven’t figured out how to open it yet, haha. I forgot that I don’t have a cleaver at my apartment, that’s usually how I open them at my parents’ house.

Your WOD yesterday (i.e. Sept. 9) looks like our WOD today (i.e. Sept. 10), although ours is scaled down a bit and has a walking overhead lunge. I’m hoping I can get through it without falling off (or onto) the box lol. Alhamdulillah I’m feeling pretty good in terms of hydration; I’ve been chugging water and milk every spare moment I get between maghrib and fajr lately 🙂

  3. I was wondering about coke 0. is it because of the artificial sweetener or chemicals? I remember reading something about artificial sweeteners and insulin response

my brother used a hammer once to open the coconut we had a while back.

I am going to comment on the more recent blog now.

  4. I stay away from most soft drinks because of the chemicals. I mean, I just like to eat/drink things with ingredients that I can pronounce, and that actually belong in my body, unlike Coke Zero which contains “Carbonated Water, Caramel Color, Phosphoric Acid, Aspartame, Potassium Benzoate (To Protect Taste), Natural Flavors, Potassium Citrate, Acesulfame Potassium, Caffeine.”

Aside from maybe the carbonated water and the caffeine, I either don’t know what the other things are or I don’t want them in my stomach. I’m not sure how much actual harm it can do in terms of insulin response etc, but it’s definitely not paleo (at least, it’s probably less paleo than corn starch) if you’re trying to follow a paleo diet. 🙂
