Starting Strength:
Squat 5/5/3 @ 100 lbs (3rd attempt)
Press 5/5/5 @ 37 lbs (deload)

I was planning to deload for both the squat and press, but I decided to go for a third and final attempt at 100 lbs instead. I thought since I rested for so long that I might be able to do it. But unfortunately on the 4th rep of the last set I lost my balance when the bar started moving slightly forward and I couldn’t stop it.

And for presses, because there was such a huge difference when I jumped from 42 lbs (easy) to 47 lbs (really hard), I am going to increase more slowly from the beginning. So I’ll try 2.5 lbs increases, i.e. 39.5 lbs next week, 42 the week after, then 44.5, etc.

I’m glad to be back in the gym 🙂 and I cannot believe it’s December already…

27/11/2009 – Eid mubarak!

In Logs on November 27, 2009 by Suhaila

Really quick pseudo-update… I didn’t go to the gym yesterday because I wasn’t feeling very well after work, and today is Eid so I didn’t get a chance to go either. I am thinking of trying to go tomorrow if I have time to do some of the stuff I missed today and yesterday. We’ll see I guess. If not, I don’t think it’s too bad, since I was due for a rest week anyway, and since next week is a deload week, what better time is there to miss workouts than now?

Eid mubarak!

Deadlift 5 @ 145 lbs (+5 from last Tuesday)

Didn’t do a metcon today since my arms are feeling sore and in general I’m feeling really tired this week. Instead I just worked on rowing. Did 4x500m. I wrote the times down but forgot what they were… I didn’t beat my previous PR, which is kind of depressing since my previous PR was pretty bad (2:13.0).

Squat 4/5/5 @ 100 lbs (2nd attempt — failed on first set because I was wearing my socks to lift in and my foot was slipping. I took off the socks for the rest and was fine… I’ll try this weight again anyway just to make sure since it was still borderline.)
Press 4/4/5 @ 47 lbs (+5 from last Monday)

After today’s workout, I think it’s time for some rest. I just didn’t feel very strong today, and have been feeling like this since last week sometime. I have been doing this SS-hybrid thing for 5 weeks straight now, and before that I was doing the regular CF wods 5 on 2 off for I don’t even remember how long without a break.

So I’m going to finish this week of SS, and then next week I’m going to take my numbers back down and start working up again.

Power clean 5/1/3/3/3 @ 77 lbs (+5 from last Friday) — PR

So I found out that I’m supposed to do 5 sets of 3, not 3 sets of 5 for power cleans haha. Oh well! After the power cleans I did 2 strict pull-ups in a row (pull-up grip)! Skipped the negatives and metcon today because I was really sleepy. Looking forward to resting on the weekend and back to the 100 lb squats on Monday. 🙂

Squat 5/5/3 @ 100 lbs (+5 from Monday) — PR
Bench 5/5/5 @ 52 lbs (+5 from last Thursday) — PR

The bar moved really slowly when squatting at this weight. The last rep of the first and seconds sets were really hard, as was the third rep of the last set. On the fourth rep, I got stuck about halfway up and couldn’t manage to push through it as hard as I tried. Next time I’ll try this weight again, but I am really happy that I managed to get two full sets at 100 lbs. I think I may have failed because I haven’t been getting enough sleep and today I didn’t eat as much as I usually do, so I’ll try to sleep more and eat more from now on and see if it makes a difference on Monday.

The bench press is still going well though. This weight was heavy enough that I actually felt that I was pressing something, and it is becoming a bit hard to keep my wrists straight at the top of the lift, but I think I can do a lot more inshaAllah.

Today is supposed to be a skills/rest day. I was planning to do 3 sets of chin-up negatives and that’s it, but I only did 1 set. Before I did any negatives, I attempted to do one full pull-up with a pull-up grip, and I actually did it! But then when I switched back to the chin-up grip to do negatives, my left bicep started hurting a lot. It’s been bothering me for the last few weeks when I do chin-ups. The pull-up didn’t hurt at all though, because I guess it’s not as bicep intensive. The next day I was planning to do negatives was Friday, so I think on Friday I’ll switch to neutral grip negatives, or pull-up grip negatives.

Metcon: Annie
50-40-30-20-10 of:
Double-unders
Sit-ups
[Time: Horrible. It was like 25:31 or something. Since Annie was the prescribed WOD for today at the gym, all the ropes were being used. The ones that were left were all stretched out and I tried doing double-unders but it was just not happening. I eventually chose the best one out of what was left, but it didn’t go well in the WOD. I was struggling just to get one double-under at a time. I also struggled to get singles; I usually do 3 or 4 singles before I do a double, and then I alternate single-double-single-double, but this time I was failing before even getting to the first double! Stupid rope! Maybe next time. I haven’t done double-unders in a while (I think Oct 30 was the last time), so I was out of practice as well and couldn’t find my rhythm at all. :(]

Oh well. Tomorrow I attempt a 100 lb back squat!!!! If I do it, it will be 15 lbs over my pre-SS PR (which I still think was a true PR despite being so low, since I was stuck there for a loooong time).
